The scheme was earlier known as the Sahayog and Uphaar Yojana. It was later renamed Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana. Along with providing financial assistance for marriage, the scheme also gives importance to the educational qualification of the girl.

Girls who have passed Class 10 or graduation can receive an additional incentive amount along with the basic marriage assistance, subject to the applicable eligibility conditions.
